After seeing Kiss of the Dragon, Jet Li's last underwhelming venture, my expectations for this one were minimal. Then I saw commercials featuring Jet Li picking up a motorcycle and hitting someone with it. Suddenly, it looked awesome.

It wound up being a good deal of fun. The Jetman plays an interdimensional cop who discovers that if he hops between planes of existence and kills every version of himself on every version of Earth, he continues to gain more and more power. Delroy Lindo and Jason Statham are the cops out to bring him in before he completes the job. Trouble is, his last target has the same power that he has, although he has no idea why, because it's modern day Los Angeles.

Going into this, all a fella wants is some smooth-ass effects and lots of cool kicking, and this flick delivers. The kicking is plentiful and made cooler because of the surprisingly good slow-motion effects that augment Super Jetman's apparent godlike whoop-ass abilities, and the motorcycle smackdown sequence is also brutally well-executed, and if you're expecting much more out of this film, you shouldn't be.

It seemed a little short, and I would have liked to see more from Carla Gugino, but overall, this was all the fun I expected it to be and a bit more. Perhaps Jet Li is more interesting and compelling when he's playing a ruthless villain than he is trying to be the noble hero.
