Now this one was interesting. Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock as hitmen on the trail of a Kansas housewife (Renee Zellweger) they just widowed (and who witnessed them widow her) and who happens to be deluded into thinking the characters on her soap opera are real and she's in true magic love with Greg Kinnear, lead actor on the show. Makes for some interesting dynamics and some surprises you don't expect.

Renee Zellweger has a strange quality. Anytime I've seen her in a setting outside of a film, she has little to no magic working in her favor, but on film, there's something lovable, dare I say enchanting, about her. Maybe it's that sappy part of me that thought Jewel was going to be my spiritual savior until she went all holy on her second album. Zellweger looks a lot like that there gal, so maybe that's playing on me a bit. But she just has that innocence about her that makes you want good things to happen to her.

Chris Rock is still playing Chris Rock, but I always like having Chris Rock around, so it's not really too much of a problem. Greg Kinnear, who Regis Philbin called "The Next Jack Lemmon," played that good-looking-guy-that-turns-out-to-be-a-jerk kinda thing - the same sorta role he played in "Mystery Men." Morgan Freeman is the hardest to believe, because he's got such a powerful identification with past, altruistic and kinder roles. Something about him and his style just doesn't let a guy believe he's a killer. But I was able to go along with it, because he's still a great actor to watch.

I was afraid the whole 'deluded soap opera fan who thinks its real' angle might be trite and less than interesting, but providing interesting twists I genuinely didn't expect all around this central idea kept things entertaining. I wasn't enraptured by it or anything, but there was enough originality in the film to make me happy about it. I'd recommend it.
