Oftentimes, films are compared unjustly to other films rather than being judged on their own merits. However, since the original title of "The Haunting" was "The Haunting Of Hill House"... and this film is entitled "House On Haunted Hill," I feel a little comparison is necessary.

I laughed occasionally at "HOHH" because of some genuinely funny dialog and good delivery. I laughed occasionally at "The Haunting" because of some genuinely stupid dialog and stilted delivery.

I was not particularly frightened by "HOHH," but I did find myself somewhat disturbed on occasion due to some good use of creepy imagery - not to mention the freaky shaky-head people that made "Jacob's Ladder" so unnerving. I was not particularly frightened by "The Haunting," but that was because I didn't give a rat's ass about any of the characters and Liam Neeson should have used the Force.

A friend of mine who thinks the Matrix is gospel also said he thought "The Haunting" sucked ass. He also said that he was afraid to go to sleep after "HOHH."

The cast in this film was actually entertaining, something the folks in "The Haunting" forgot they were supposed to do. Chris Kattan sticks out with some really good 'normal freaked-out guy' vibes, and Geoffrey Rush and Famke Janssen make a pretty good nasty couple.

It's a bit of a forgettable film, though... I almost forgot to review it.
